If you still have questions, we recommend bringing in a sample of your pool water to a pool supply store. They will thoroughly test the water and advise what is needed. This is free and will greatly help you master your pool chemistry.

Turn off the power to the cell before removing and inspecting it.

Inspect the plates within the cell to see if any lightly coloured crusty or flakey scale deposits have formed. There may also be debris that has caught on the plates as water passes through. If there aren’t any deposits, you can reinstall the cell.

The first and easiest way to get the scale off is to use a high-pressure hose but if this doesn’t work, we recommend using a plastic or wooden tool to scrape the stubborn deposits off. You shouldn’t use anything metal as this can damage the plates.

If pressure washing and scraping do not remove the majority of the deposits, you will need to use a mild acid wash or call the experts at Paradise Pools.

Begin by turning off the pump and releasing any built-up pressure using the relief valve. Gently remove the cartridge from the housing, before thoroughly rinsing the cartridge with a garden hose, starting from the top and working down between the pleats to dislodge loose debris.

Next, prepare a cleaning solution by mixing water with a cartridge filter cleaner recommended by the manufacturer. Allow the cartridge to soak in the solution for the specified time to break down oils and stubborn debris. After soaking, use a soft brush or a dedicated filter cleaning tool to carefully scrub between the pleats, ensuring a thorough clean.

Take this opportunity to inspect the cartridge for any signs of damage, such as tears or worn-out pleats. If significant damage is detected, it might be advisable to consider replacing the cartridge. Once the cleaning and inspection are complete, reinsert the cartridge into the filter housing, making sure it is properly seated and secured.

Your water level should stay at the middle of the water line tile.

Use the bucket test. Fill the pool to a normal level and fill a five-gallon bucket about a third-full of pool water. Mark the water level on the inside of the bucket and the pool level on the outside (shut off the pump when you do it and then resume normal operation). After 24 hours compare the two. If the pool water mark on the outside of the bucket goes down more than the bucket water, there is probably a leak. If the levels change the same amount, it’s evaporation.

Depending on the scope of the project, the process length can vary. Most projects will take 8-10 weeks from start to finish, weather permitting.
